HALLOWEEN

Hello dear students,
I'm Carolina and I just want to say:

HAPPY HALLOWEEN !!!!!!!

HALLOWEEN is celebrated on 31st October. It has ancient Celtic origins. On the Celtic calendar it is the last day of summer and the last day of the year.
The Druids, the Celtic priests, practice religious ritual and magic and they also predict the future. On this da the Clets make big fires and dress in scary costumes. They dress as ghost, skeletons and witches. They want to frighten the evil spirits. They think that the spirits of the dead visit their homes on that evening.
After the Roman invasion of Britain in 43 AD, christians practices replace pagan practices. The christians call 1st November ALL HALLOWS'S DAY, the Day of All Saints. The evening of 31st October is called ALL HALLOWS'S EVE and this became HALLOWWEN.
At Halloween American children dress in scary costumes. The typical Halloween costumes are the witch, ghost, skeleton, monster, vampire or alien. It is a popular tradition to make JACK O'LANTERNS with PUMPKINS and decorate schools with pumpkins, ghosts, witches and bats. There are funny Halloween games such as BOBBING FOR APPLES. Favourite Hallowwen foods are candied apples, nuts, popcorn and pumpkin pie.
In the 19th century Irish immigrants go to the United States and introduce the custom of TRICK-OR-TREATING. Children and teenagers go TRICK-OR-TREATING on Halloween evening. They go from house to house in their costumes and ring doorbells. When the door opens they say, TRICK OR TREAT?. People usually give them sweets or money. If not, the children play TRICK!. They write on windows with spray shaving cream on cars and people.
